How many references do I need?
Usually students will have between two and four references, depending on individual circumstances, such as if you have worked before coming to law school or if you came straight from undergrad.
No, although if you are researching for a professor this summer, you can certainly ask him or her to provide a reference for you. You should have between two and four references, each of whom should be each able to speak to your ability and professionalism. They don't have to all be from law school. You should have one reference from your current summer employer(s), and maybe a professor from college or a previous employer. You're not asking for a letter of recommendation, just for his/her willingness to provide a reference for you should a potential employer request it.
What should the document look like?
Your list of references should be a separate document that lists the person's name, title, employer, and contact information. If one of your references has a preferred method of contact, you should include that. Use the same font that is on your resume. For more information, see (log into LawWeb required):
Do I upload my references to CASE with my resume?
No. You do not need to provide references on CASE. You should have a list of references with you at your interviews, both OGI and callbacks.
